Ann Roberts Annual Recital
Each year, Kilties take part in the spectacular Annual Recital. This is a major theatrical production, with professional set design, sound and lighting, and is well supported by the general public. All students benefit greatly from the chance to perform before a large, public audience, but the real value comes from their involvement in the discipline, protocol, traditions and stagecraft of live theatre.

Kilties at the Townsville Eisteddfod
The Eisteddfod experience combines the pressure of performing before a live (and critical!) audience with the need to
show a high technical standard. It is extremely beneficial to a dancer's confidence.
Participation in groups builds the student's sense of teamwork and community spirit.

Welcome to Highland Dancing
Highland dancing is a strong yet graceful national dance form that is performed to
traditional and modern Scottish music. The School teaches the NDA (National
Dancing Australia) syllabus for Scottish, Lesser Known and Jig/Hornpipe
examinations. Children are able to register to compete in recognised SOBHD
(Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing) competitions, which develop through
a levels system, commencing with Primary level.
Class Requirements
• A leotard or fitted top and fitted shorts/ bike pants.
• Highland shoes with elastic and socks.
• Hair off the face and neck (preferably in a bun)
• Water bottle
• Highland folder
• A full circular practice skirt (Beginners and above only)
Competitions
If your child wishes to compete in competitions they will
need to register through the Far North Qld Region Committee of Highland Dancing,
which is governed by the Australian Board of Highland Dancing and, in turn, the Scottish
Official Board of Highland Dancing!
The annual fee to register is $40.
3 Competitions are held in Townsville in the latter part of the year. The school will
provide entry forms to you as they become available.
Please be aware that entry forms are your responsibility and entry fees are at your
expense.
(N.B. Some entry forms close several weeks before the competition.)
Competitions are optional but they are a great way to develop strength, gain
confidence and build life long friendships as you enjoy the support of the Ann Roberts
Kilties.
The Levels
Dancers move through a “levels system” at competitions,
commencing in either Primary or Beginners (depending on their age at the first
competition). Promotion to the next level depends on competition results.
